Vestavia Country Club for the 40th annual Poinsettia Ball sponsored by the Ballet Women’s Committee. Clusters of red poinsettia balls were suspended from the ceiling with bright red ribbons. Two large trees with tiny white lights framed the stage, which was backed with spiral arrangements of poinsettias. Each arch in the ballroom was decorated with ribboned garlands and tiny white lights.

Ball chairman Tammy Towns, with husband Rick Towns, and Ballet Women’s Committee president Melinda Helveston, with husband, Ron Helveston, welcomed guests. Ball committee members and their husbands in attendance were Jeanne and Barry Lollar, Judy and John Campbell, Belinda and Gunder Malke, Rita and Ed Wood, Lisa and Terry Henley, Sally and Jay Young, Jean and David Hendrickson, Leigh Ann and Foster Yeilding, Anne and Brad Osborne, and Joy and James Deupree. Mrs. Deupree is chairman of the Poinsettia Ball board. Other members of the committee are Liz Warren, Carol Ann Morrison, Una Ray Barnett, Stacy Kingren and Sarah Cowart.

Each debutante, wearing a white gown and long white gloves, was introduced by Don Moseley. Fathers or escorts for the presentation wore white tie and tails. Ashley Marie Ross was chosen by the debutantes as president of this year’s class. Following the presentation, music for dancing was provided by Roadside Attractions.

Joan Williams was recognized during a special presentation for her years of service to the ball and the Ballet Women’s Committee.

A benefactor’s dinner, sponsored by the Poinsettia Men’s Club, preceded the ball. Marshall Ross is president of the men’s club. Nancy Kennedy chaired the dinner, which featured a duo of filet mignon and shrimp and a chocolate toffee rum cake dessert.
